Motif X, great sound in an unsightly package.
Let me start by saying this, MartinLogan speaker sets are great. I have the Motion 40 floor standing speakers and also the Motif X. Opening the box of the motif X contains the regular packaging that you would expect from a center channel speaker. Manuals and setup recommendations. They also included a mount to stand the speaker on, and needless to say, is UGLY. I really liked to classy look and feel that MartinLogan engineers into the speaker systems. However, it seem to me that for the Motif X, they threw the kitchen sink and smashed it until it looked somewhat like a shlameal. When I first acquired the motif X, I decided to test its quality by running some sound tests, and to my delight, the sound quality is amazing. I would guess that this would be the end of the review since, this is what people really want to know. More often than not, I get asked, “What is that?” and after the person hears the speaker, then the answer is wow. I think MartinLogan could have focused more of their efforts to make the system more appealing to the eyes, since this piece would sit on the center of the room, but forget it, with great sound comes incredible ugliness.
Disregarding the painfully cheap stand. The speaker sounds wonderful. It’s perfect with my SL3’s, MLDepth and my soon to be delivered LX16’s! I have always been pleased with Martin Logan equipment (even if I have to wait for a product to be discontinued so I can afford it!) I use the cheap stand, but when y’all put the speaker on top, it’s really not that noticeable. Again, 5 stars for the speaker!
